Tom Friesen
REDD Program Manager, 2017-2023. A lifelong Oregonian, I am passionate about the outdoors and, in particular, the conservation of our native fish communities. I started with ODFW in1991, but my career really began at age three, when (assisted by my parents) I caught my first trout in a beautiful southern Oregon stream. As the Fish Decision Support Manager for ODFW's Conservation and Recovery Program, I administer the REDD Group; my focus is on supporting our team as they assess fish populations, model climate change, and research innovative monitoring techniques. Some of my previous research roles included managing a Willamette River research program, describing juvenile salmon behavior in the lower Willamette, surveying urban stream fish communities, and assessing predation on juvenile salmon in the Columbia River. I am a graduate of Oregon State University (Go Beavs!) and can be found fishing, hunting, gardening, and keeping boats running in my spare time.
